The
College at Brockport has been awarded a grant from NYSED to conduct a summer
workshop for Grade 5-8 Science and Math teachers. The focus of the Hands-On Minds-On Environmental
Education Institute will be on new content in environmental topics and modern
pedagogical approaches to teaching these topics. The following highlight several benefits
of the program.
- The residential
program runs Sunday evening June 29th through Thursday July 3rd,
2008. All costs associated with single occupancy housing, meals, and
tuition are covered by the grant. Residence is
highly encouraged to maximize networking opportunities and depth of
experience.
- Participants will
attend workshops on topics ranging from the human-environment
interactions, climate change, alternative energy, water
quality, integration of math and science content and process, innovative
active learning strategies for effective delivery and learning of science
and math topics.
- Upon completion of
the program, each participant will be awarded a budget of up to $1000,
available to them through the Brockport Research Foundation. These funds will
allow participants to purchase materials and equipment to support
implementation of lesson plans modeled during the Institute.
- Curriculum modules
presented are aligned with NYS standards and core curricula in math and
science.
- We strongly encourage
science/math/special education teacher teams from the same school. This
will allow development of units and strategies to be implemented across
disciplines.
